we had a little Trinity Classic soccer tournament here at TIU this past weekend. after slaughtering Iowa Wesleyen 10-0 on Friday afternoon (i scored 4), we went into the Saturday morning Cornerstone University match a little complacent, losing 3-0. watching game tape today helped ease my frustration, because we really dominated most the game. we just had no offense and then made 3 huuuuuuuge mistakes. we went into halftime down 1, and then CU finished off the end of the game with a couple more.
on Sunday we had a little social outing with the cornerstoners (i'm sure they would absolutely love the nickname i've chosen for them) to the brand new chicago Fire's home Toyota stadium west of Chicago to see the US play CHINA. China scored first, but ultimately lost to the red white and blue 4-1. The US had a scrappy goal to retaliate, then an underserved pentalty kick to put them up one. All in all the game was pretty whack... but I enjoyed the last 5 minutes where Kristine Lilly nailed a nearly 30-yard direct kick left footed far post upper 90 AND THEN took two china defenders on the dribble and chipped the goalie hitting the crossbar and pinging in. it was pretty sweet. maddie is a hoot, she had a good time rooting for China.
