All-GSAC baby, yeah!

FLORIDA, here we come!

GOOD NEWS: Heck yes!, we're going to nationals!! We found out today! And the guys are coming with if they beat Simpson on Satsurday. The NCCAA tournament is in Kissimmee (right out of Orlando), Florida on November 16th - 21st.

Today in my Tools for Literary Exegesis and Analysis class, Professor Matson congratulated me in front of everyone for being selected to the All-GSAC Team - it was news to me at the time. Now I know why everyone was saying "Congrats" when walking through campus today.

Three Hope Soccer Players Earn All-GSAC Honors
10/31/2005

Garret Arechiga, Beau Lawson, and Nicole Collins have earned All-GSAC Honors for their impressive play on the soccer field. This marks the first double selection for Hope’s men’s soccer program, and its first All-GSAC selection since 2002. This marks the first selection for the women’s program since the 2003 season.

Arechiga, a junior goalkeeper from Elk Grove, CA, finished the season in the top 5 in two Golden State Athletic Conference categories. He finished 4th in saves (68) and 3rd in saves per game (4.25). He had three shutouts on the season, landing him in a 4-way tie for 6th place in that category.

Lawson (Fullerton, CA), a junior midfielder who transferred to Hope from Vanguard University, was one of the team’s most exciting players to watch. His selection to the 2005 All-GSAC men’s soccer team is the second of his career. He earned the honor back in 2001 as a sophomore at Vanguard.

This is sophomore forward Nicole Collins’ (Tacoma, WA) first selection to the All-GSAC women’s soccer team. As co-captain of the Royals women’s soccer team, she nearly doubled her scoring output from a season ago, finishing the season with a conference-leading 42 points (17 goals, 8 assists). She also led the Golden State Athletic Conference with 18 goals, and was 2nd in the GSAC in points per game (2.33) and goals per game (1.00). She also finished the season 3rd in the conference in shots per game (3.94).

BAD NEWS: Due to a decision made yesterday by HIU, we are paying for most of our way to the NCCAA tournament. Each player is to raise $600. This is the first time that the women's team has had the oppurtunity to play at nationals. If you want to take part in HIU history you can make a tax-detuctable donation to HIU Women's Soccer 2500 East Nutwood Avenue, Fullerton, CA 92831. Please pray for us during our fundraising efforts during the next two weeks!
