Christmas Break 3 months earlier. After re-watching Mona Lisa Smile for the upteenth time, I mentioned to mom that it would be sweet to have a typewriter.
Random "spring break" a few days ago. Gpas Collins came to the house for dinner and cards, and Grandpa brought with him a short and fat locked briefcase.
"I heard you might be interested in one of these," he said nonchalantly.
I stood clueless, but intrigued by the unknown contents of this big black square container.
A 1940s typewriter. And in pristine condition, as it has been hardly used. All it needs is an ink ribbon, which "may prove difficult to find" according to mom... but you can find anything on the internet, right?
(3 smith corona ink ribbons for $25!)I was delightfully stunned. Moments like these are rare. Thanks grents!
When we were playing cards, I drew an unhelpful card that caused me to proclaim, "reDIC!"
Mom quickly tagged-on, "ulous."
I was playing some multi-generation-friendly tunes (the beatles) in the form of Across the Universe soundtrack and best hits. Dad and I suddenly broke into song at the exact same time at the slowed and emotionally charged lyrics "Tell Me What You See." It was precious. I saw Grandma smile with a sentimental intensity I have never seen before.
