fall's first snow

THURSDAY 12th
I woke up with four things on my mind: Fall Break, Martin Methodist, Serena, Nick. Debatable whether in that order. Classes were closed, it was Serena's 20th birthday, and Nick was arriving at 11pm to spend the weekend with me. AND IT SNOWED.

BUT FIRST THING'S FIRST: at 4pm we went head to head with Martin Methodist of Tennessee, the Defending NAIA Champions. It was big time; a num 3 seed traveling to Chicago to play a num 24 seed just to get some extra points on their longo score. Little did the Southern Redhawks know that they would be blindsided by a force known as the Trinity Trojans.
Martin Methodist could have been distracted by the morning snowfall, but it passed by game time. They could have been distracted by the nearly freezing cold, but their coach had bought them all new adidas longsleeve dry-fits. They could have been distracted by the slippery field conditions, but then again we all played on the same field right?
I think they were frustrated. They were frustrated that they were shutout in the first half and walked to the locker room down 1-0. They were frustrated that this num 24 seed never let-up, that we never sat on the 1 up lead. They were frustrated to the point that they yelled and cursed at everyone and anyone; the ref, the fans, us, and even each other. The game was winding down, and so were they. Sure, there was a last few semi-dangerous attempts on goal by the Redhawks, but they just couldn't capitalize. Under 10 minutes to go and we delivered goal number 2. The game clock expired before Martin Methodist could react.
